Best hotel in downtown Port au Prince. This place is so convenient for someone who doesn’t have a private car. The rooms are very nice and clean.

I never stayed at Le Plaza but I had lunch there twice. The location is quite nice when you consider that you are in downtown Port-au-Prince and the atmosphere is relaxing enough to help you forget all the troubles you leave outside. The food at both La Terasse Bar and Kanel restaurant was excellent. The service was also very good and the prices reasonnable.

I stayed at Le Plaza in early August and was extremely pleased by the proximity of the hotel to other places, the staff, the service, and my overall experience.

Le Plaza is located near Champ Mars, I must admit, the location isn’t inviting, however once you are behind the gates this place is truly an Oasis. Like most places in Haiti the facilities warrant some upgrades but the room was clean and the bed was super super comfortable. The AC was good, the fridge worked, and we lived for the free, uninterrupted wi-fi during our entire stay.

The food at Le Plaza is very good, I was pleasantly surprised by the full breakfast buffet which included fresh fruits, traditional Haitian staples, fresh coffee, and an omelette station. The wait staff are friendly, attentive, and not bad on the eye. Our favorite waiter was Johnykelle he’s featured in the magazine as the face of Le Plaza, he is a very interesting young man. I loved the women at the front desk, they were friendly, and always greeted us with a smile, they handled all of our issues, whether it was to make a phone call or to give us the wi-fi password for the 100th time, they were pleasant and always helpful.

The pool at Le Plaza was inviting and relaxing, we met other patrons who were in Haiti on business, and even some aspiring minor league soccer players from Cuba who were waiting on their visa to the States (a litte fact that I did not know). One thing I would suggest is to allow the waiters to wait on people at the pool and serve drinks in plastic cups as to not worry about breaking glass, the one thing I hate when relaxing is having to get up for my snacks and beverages. I would also keep the pool open pass 10pm maybe an extra hour or two, also, perhaps have a vending machine, or a small fridge at front desk with juice/ water/snacks for midnight munchies.

We checked out of Le Plaza for a countryside trip with plans of checking in two days later, the hotel held our bags for us (which was very accomodating). I forgot two pairs of sandals in our room, when we checked back in the housekeeper returned them to me, she remembered me telling her we would be back. She got a major hug/tip from me, I hadn’t worn either pair.

I would recommend Le Plaza to anyone looking for a low key, no frills hotel with excellent customer service, friendly/accomodating staff, great food, and wi-fi.

Le Plaza, I will see you Impact Haiti 2013……
