T-Cash captures 89% of Scaling Award for mobile money

The second post of the Pemba City Blog is about the outstanding performance of T-Cash, a mobile money service offered by  Voila and Unibank,  in the first milestone of  the Scaling Award ( from USAID Haiti and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ).

Mobile money is a great innovation that is starting to take off in Haiti, and T-Cash  captured 89% of market share in the 100,000 first mobile money transactions.

Why mobile money and T-Cash is really changing our way of moving money in Haiti ? How can T-Cash impact our life in a city like Port-au-Prince, where we are constantly trying to save time, even more than in other big cities ?

  1. You can very easily activate a mobile money account from your Voila phone ( *700#).
  2. You can  deposit up to HTG 10,000 in this account when you go to a T-Cash Agent location.
  3. You can very easily withdraw money from your T-Cash account at any T-Cash Agents as well. From my personnal experience, withdrawing cash from your T-Cash account takes  10 minutes at the Voila PV Store, versus around 1 hour at a bank branch.
  4. You can also easily transfer money to a person having a T-Cash account too. Check the TV Commercial there and there.
  5. In a restaurant like Muncheez, you can even pay your pizza or drinks with T-Cash.

There are still a lot of challenges and roadblocks ahead for a mass adoption of this type of banking service in Haiti, but it sounds like the Haitian population, urban or even rural, likes it and adopts it, more and more every day !
