The review of ManManPemba

Only a few places outside of Haiti make it to ManManPemba ( like Bwe Kafé in Jersey for instance ) but it was about time to add Tap Tap, a well-known Haitian restaurant in South Beach, Miami. Everything was perfect at Tap Tap : the decor, the service, the ambiance, and of course the food. Let me start with the decor : the Veve inspired neon sign, the mural paintings with Haitian art and familiar scenery, the typical wood chairs, the decorated tables. They are different small rooms too, all with unique mural paintings, which must be pretty cool if you host a party here. When we got there on Saturday Night, the place was almost full and we were sat in the back, next to the musicians - a live band plays there every Saturday apparently. All of that made it very attractive to me ! The service was really good : we did not wait more than 5 minutes before a waiter came, and the food came fast too. The ambiance in the back was excellent : the musicians were playing some good Haitian music ! There was a saxophonist who wanted his fellows to play a particular tune, and after a few unsuccessful attempts of making them switch to this song, he pronounced a few loud words, packed his sax and left the place in 5 seconds ! While the other members of the band staid quiet, and continued playing like if nothing happened ! Then, one of guitarist started playing the guitar from behind, in his back, scene captured by Estelle in the pic below, even though we can't see the black electric guitar ! Now the food : a quite simple menu, nothing too complicated, no 3-lines-long menu items, a menu which has all the essentials of the Haitian cuisine.  The cooking was perfect, the seasoning too. My Gryio definitely made me remember a good PaP griot, yet I could appreciate the specificity of this restaurant, and flavors brought by US ingredients and/or cooking. A subtile mix that I loved ! Even though this is not within Little Haiti, Tap Tap represents very well the Haitian food culture
